Zig Zag Fold With Square Tiles

This is an adaptation of the zig zag fold I originally created for round tiles.

If there is more than one layer. Upper layers will be darker (lightest on bottom, darkest on top).
Instructions

Fold the tile in half horizontally.

Fold in half vertically and unfold. This will create a crease at the center for reference in the next step.

Place your tile with the long folded edge toward you. Make a valley fold, folding the right edge in so it lines up with the center fold line.

Fold the lower corner of the right edge back at a 45% angle as shown forming a triangle, matching what used to be the bottom edge with the right side.

Mountain fold along the lower edge of the triangle as shown in the illustration (blue line).

Valley fold the upper right corner as shown.

Unfold and mountain fold the upper right corner.

Reverse the triangle you just made in the previous two steps and push it between the front and back layers. This is the finished tile.

Arrange the tiles as shown for the completed medallion. For easier alignment try using the 8 segment positioning template here:
